POSITION TITLE:                        Executive Director
REPORTS TO:            Board President, and is evaluated by the Executive Committee
SUPERVISES:                        Associate Director(s), Grounds Keeper and Office staff

Located in landmark buildings in historic Ridgefield, Connecticut , the Museum is a leading interpreter of living history from the Colonial period through the early 20thcentury.  Costumed docents use the life stories of tavern residents and guests, complemented with period furnishings and the Museum’s artifacts collections, to inform and educate diverse audiences.  Funding is provided by income from programming, donations, membership, and an endowment; wide-ranging operations are supported by more than 100 volunteers, augmented by a small paid staff. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of the Keeler Tavern Museum (KTM) is responsible for outreach and growth.   In this full-time position, the Executive Director provides leadership and management of programs and projects, oversees funding, works to increase membership and increase the visibility of KTM in the Ridgefield community.  The position requires development of positive and highly productive working relationships with the Board of Directors, Trustees, volunteers, Associate Directors and KTM staff. The Executive Director participates with the Board in developing the Museum’s strategic goals and objectives, and with chairpersons of operating committees to achieve them.  Establishing recognition as one of the community’s leaders and promoting KTM among them is also an integral component of the position.

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Advanced degree in museum or non-profit studies preferred.  Bachelor’s degree with appropriate experience will be considered.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong management and administrative competence in supervising people and projects.  Proven success in marketing and fundraising for non-profit organizations is required for this position. Sound community/public relations skills and understanding of the local community and regional dynamics and outstanding oral and written communications skills are required.  Strong computer literacy and ability to use and monitor technical equipment as well as web and social media are also required.

Familiarity with the Ridgefield Community is a plus.
