A special room at the Keeler 'Tavern Museum on Main Street has been arranged by museum curator Karen McChesney as a hands-on space for younger children to experience various child's activities of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Outfitted with games, toys and books of the period, the room is furnished with child sized chairs and table, and a faux fireplace. A metal pot with spoons for stirring is provided with wooden food to a make a stew.
It is hoped that children visiting the Keeler Tavern Museum will enjoy trying a game or reading a book or starting a meal as in the past, said Elise Haas of the tavern.
Children must be supervised by the adult who brought them to visit the museum.
The children's room is open when the museum is open for tours Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4.
