Themed tours showcase the museum’s period rooms and focus on different points in the site’s history.

    Creating Community
The early 20th century was a time of exciting change and disruptive challenges. The concept of what it meant to be a Ridgefielder, and an American, was in flux, as various groups attempted to live in community together – or not. This tour traces the stories of the immigrants, longtime Ridgefielders, and summer residents who lived and worked on our site as they navigated personal priorities and public good.
    War at Home
Learn about the experiences of the residents of our site during the Battle of Ridgefield, Connecticut's only inland Revolutionary War battle, on April 27, 1777. Discover how the members of the Keeler household navigated community division and the war's impact on families, and discuss how we remember the events today.
    Meet the Residents
Learn about some of the site's former residents: the original stewards of the land, the Ramapough, Munsee Lenape, and Wiechquaesgeck peoples; the home's colonial-era builders, Benjamin and Sarah Hoyt; tavern founders Timothy and Esther Keeler; 19th-century residents Phillis Dubois and the Resseguie family; and Cass and Julia Gilbert, who transformed the property in the early 20th century.
    Hightlights
A shorter, 30-minute duration with an emphasis on hands-on experiences. Visitors will learn about selected highlights of our centuries-long site history. Only offered on First Sundays, #HandsOnHistory Sundays, and at other special events. Inquire at the Visitor Center front desk.
