The greatest concentration of Ridgefield soldiers were assigned to the 17th Connecticut Infantry Regiment. The regiment was organized in Bridgeport, CT on August 28, 1862 under the command of Col. William Noble and was mustered out of service July 19, 1865. During the war, the regiment participated in several battles, including Chancellorsville and Gettysburg.
