What was a Soldiers Fair?
Soldiers Fairs, often called Sanitary Fairs, were promoted by the Sanitary Commission, an association chartered by the Union government during the Civil War to promote health in the northern Army's camps through attention to cleanliness, nutrition, and medical care.
