Ridgefield War Memorial. The front face bears the dedication "To the memory of the citizens of Ridgefield who served their country in the wars of the republic 1775-1918." |
Where on Main Street is Ridgefield's Memorial to Civil War soldiers located?
The North side of the monument displays a plaque honoring 185 Civil War soldiers.
The monument, prompted by World War I, memorializes those who served in all wars from 1775 through 1918. The site, in front of the Methodist Church, served historically as a parade ground as it was near the original location of the Congregational Church and Town Green. The dedication ceremony for the monument on July 4, 1925 drew hundreds of attendees from Ridgefield and neighboring towns.
