On November 16, 1862, Anna Marie wrote in her journal of the funeral of Christopher Olmsted. Christopher was a member of the 17th Connecticut Regiment.
What caused his death?
Christopher died of what killed the overwhelming majority of the soldiers: disease. He did not live long enough to see active duty. He died of typhoid fever three months after enlisting, a victim of unsanitary conditions and lack of adequate medical care.
