Ridgefield, Conn. – On Tuesday, June 4, Cora Meres was awarded the Bettie Jane Third Memorial Scholarship in acknowledgement of her exceptional volunteerism at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center (KTM&HC).
Each year, KTM&HC is proud to recognize Ridgefield High School (RHS) seniors who have contributed hours of service to the museum. The Bettie Jane Third Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is planning on majoring in general history or library sciences, and/or who has volunteered considerable time at KTM&HC. The award is given in memory of the late Bettie Jane Third, a professional librarian and avid supporter of KTM&HC. This year, as in years past, the scholarship was presented to Meres by Ms. Third’s husband, Joel Third, who is himself a distinguished KTM&HC volunteer and former board president.
Meres is graduating from RHS this Friday as a high honor student and AP Scholar with Distinction. She has shared her time and talents at KTM&HC in a variety of capacities. “Since participating in Keeler Kids in first grade,” said Meres, “KTM&HC has been a significant influence in my life as I have risen through the ranks from camper, to counselor, and most recently assistant camp director and junior interpreter. From assisting with camp curriculum and direction to working on curation projects at the historical site, KTM&HC has provided me with incredible experiences and opportunities to engage with the Ridgefield community — both past and present.” This fall, Meres will be attending the University of Oxford, where she will pursue her interest in neuroscience (while continuing to focus on her passion for history) at one of the world’s oldest universities.
Thank you, Cora, for your many contributions to KTM&HC – we wish you all the best as you head off to college!
