New Winter-Themed Exhibit at KTM&HC

December 10, 2024

Ridgefield, CT - Get a glimpse of winters past in KTM&HC's Visitor Center, where our newest exhibit is now on display. "Winter Fun" is free for all - no tickets required.

At the turn of the 20th century, many Americans shifted how they celebrated Christmas. After decades of quiet, indoor celebrations focusing on piety and family, Christmas in the 1900s emerged as a time of play and imagination. Outdoor enthusiast magazines contributed to this shift, encouraged readers to get active with skating, sledding, snowshoeing, and skiing. Our exhibit showcases rarely seen historic items from our collection, including beautiful clothing, winter sports equipment, and a fabulous array of winter-themed prints from the Hartmann collection.

While you're here, purchase site admission to take a tour of our historic museum, which is beautifully decked out with greenery and holiday decorations. Younger visitors can search the museum's period rooms to find all the hidden birds in our partridge scavenger hunt. Tours run Thursdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. all month. The museum will close in January and February for routine collections care and maintenance.

Complete your visit with a stop at the Holiday Boutique, located in our historic red Carriage Barn. The Boutique is open during regular museum hours, December 12-15 and 19-22. Shoppers will find beautifully curated gifts for everyone on their list. And don't forget to take some great holiday photos on our antique sleigh!
