On view now: on the eve of America's 250th, learn about the striking similiaries between the United States today and the United States one hundred years ago, on the eve of America's 150th.
In 2026, we're marking a significant milestone in our nation's history: the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. At the local, state, and national level, preparations are underway to consider the complexities and celebrate the accomplishments of our (still relatively young!) country.
One hundred years ago, the United States marked the 150th anniversary of the Declaration's signing with relatively little national fanfare - with the exception of the Sesqui-Centennial International Exposition in Philadelphia, a grandly imagined but poorly attended event.
This exhibition puts those two major milestone national moments in conversation, exploring the differences in commemorations as well as the striking social, political, and economical parallels between 1926 and 2026: war, pandemic, high immigration, rising conservatism, and interventionism, among others.
The exhibition is included in the price of site admission; or, purchase exhibit-only passes at the Visitor Center.
